Listed below are the herbal classes that Kelley is offering at different locations in Vermont throughout the winter and spring of 2010.

Kelley regularly teaches at Sweet Hollow Herbs in Johnson, Vermont; at Purple Shutter Herbs in Winooski, Vermont; and at Champlain Valley High School in Hinesburg. Kelley also teaches classes in her hometown of Milton.

JANUARY 2010 CLASSES

 

Herbs for Winter Health & Immunity

Join Kelley in a class on how to stay healthy during the winter months! Learn how to prevent and treat common winter ailments, from the common cold to the flu, with herbs, supplements and foods. We will be making an Herbal Hand Sanitizer to protect your hands, a Sinus Oil Blend to open up the nasal passages, a Sore Throat Spray and a Room Disinfectant to help keep you healthy all winter long!

Natural Medicine for Children

As parents, we naturally want the best for our children. In particular we want them to enjoy good health and to recover rapidly when they are ill. Introducing your child to natural medicine at a young age will encourage them to take an active role in their own health. Join Kelley Robie, herbalist and mother of 8-year old twin girls, as we discuss ways to support your child’s health using botanical medicine, supplements, foods and diet. You will learn how to make yummy Herbal Syrup, soothing Slippery Elm Throat Lozenges, and a first aid Wound Salve.

Herbal & Natural Remedies for Your Equine Friends

Have you ever wondered or thought about using herbs on your equine companions? Herbal remedies have been used successfully for centuries on horses & other companion animals as medicine. Horses will actually seek out herbs in their pastures for food and medicine and most will eat them in their feed. Join Kelley in this class about HOW to use herbs on horses, WHY we should use herbs with horses and WHEN we can use these herbs. We’ll also discuss common equine ailments and what natural remedies work for them.

The Art & Science of Soapmaking

In this hands-on class, learn how to create and make traditional, healthy hand made soap! Join Kelley Robie, of Horsetail Herbs, using herbs, spices, essential oils, plant based oils and other natural and nourishing ingredients to make a batch of beautiful aromatic soap. Each student will go home with a soap sample to cut and age, as well as a handout containing detailed instructions. Recipes and ideas for customizing your own soap will be given. Please bring a quart paperboard milk or soy container for your soap mold and an old towel to wrap your fresh soap in. Get ready to make some suds! Ages 10 years and older.

An amazing treat for your face! This class focuses on the face & how to care for your special skin type with wonderful natural beauty products you can make yourself. Together we’ll make our own natural face care products & then indulge in a five-step facial. Recipes galore will be available to fit your skin type-come in stressed & go home relaxed & glowing! You will go home with four facial products. Please bring a large towel, bowl, & something to tie your hair back. This class is open to everyone!

Spring Cleansing, Fasting & Detoxification

Come and learn about the benefit and importance of internal cleansing in the springtime. Detoxification of the body is one of the best things you can do for your health. We’ll be discussing several different ways to cleanse, whether by diet change or fasting. Emphasis will be placed on proper digestion and detoxification using herbs, as well as other remedies to support the body as it goes through the process of releasing old toxins.
